Open Graph description is used for social media platforms while meta description is used for search engines. Meta description should be used on the pages as per the standard guidelines from search engines to the webmasters.

That's right - OpenGraph tags do not work like meta tags for search engines so I'd definitely use meta description - even though Google may or may not pick up your meta description for their SERP result.

As other users said, OpenGraph tags are used for social media platforms and can't be a substitute for meta tags. Therefore, it is recommended that you add meta descriptions to your website pages. Just in case you are not aware, the meta description should be between 120 and 150 characters.

It’s best to include both! The meta description helps with SEO and how your site appears in search engine results, while og:description is mainly for social media sharing. They can be similar, but having both ensures your content looks good everywhere.
